10 Easy Diet Tips That Will Work For You!
Losing weight is often one of the best things a person can do for optimal health and wellness. Being overweight can damage to the heart, contribute to high blood pressure and be hard on the joints, to name just a few of the problems that may be caused by carrying around excess weight day after day. Dropping even a few pounds can pay off handsomely in increased health and energy.
While losing weight is extremely important for the overweight or obese, dieting can be intimidating and is difficult for many people. Successful, permanent weight loss requires diligence and a workable plan. When contemplating weight loss, choose a nutritionally sound diet plan. Regardless of which diet is being pursued, try these helpful tips to make the whole dieting experience easier.
Diet Tip #1 – Eat Less, Move More
Excess weight is simply excess calories stored on the body. To get rid of excess weight, eat fewer calories than are consumed and get some exercise. While this may seem elementary, too many dieters do not adhere to this basic principle. The added advantage of eating less and moving more is that exercise will increase fitness while simultaneously burning calories, which in turn will increase the metabolism and cause the body to use more calories even while at rest.
Diet Tip #2 – Try Diet Friendly Substitutes
Consider where calorie-saving food substitutions can be made. Read labels or do some research online to determine where significant savings can be achieved. For instance, replace whole milk with low fat milk, or better yet, fat-free milk. In recipes, substitute plain yogurt for sour cream. For a snack, choose raw vegetables over chips or crackers. To get the salt to stick on popcorn, use a light coating of cooking spray rather than melted butter.
Diet Tip #3 – Beware of Low Fat or Fat Free Foods
Carefully read the label on any item claiming to be low fat or fat free. High calorie substitutes, such as high fructose corn syrup, are often used to enhance flavor and texture in low fat or fat free foods. In addition, to increase palatability, many of these items rely on chemical substitutions that may be undesirable.
Diet Tip #4 – Become Familiar with Portion Sizes
Use a measuring cup and diet scale to determine exact portions. Correct portion size is often difficult to estimate, leading to over consumption of the food in question. After portion estimation proficiency is achieved, periodically recheck portion weights or measures to ensure continued accuracy.
Diet Tip #5 – Use Small Plates and Cups
Make portion control easier by using smaller plates and cups. Having food arranged so that the plate appears full eases feelings of deprivation. Use a measuring cup to determine the exact volume of various cups or glasses. Use a permanent marker to indicate specific measurements on frequently used items. Purchase a toddler or child-size divided plate to help control food portions at meals or when snacking.
Diet Tip #6 – Forego Second Helpings
Limit meals to one helping of each food. Eat slowly, putting the fork down between each bite. Drink plenty of water and extend mealtime as long as necessary to ensure that satiety is reached without indulging in a second helping. Include raw vegetables with each meal to provide a healthy, low calorie option if the temptation for seconds cannot be resisted.
Diet Tip #7 – Control the Environment
Make dieting as easy as possible. Stock the pantry and refrigerator with diet friendly foods. To avoid relapse in times of weakness, get rid of all high calorie foods or any item that may lead to uncontrolled consumption. Have appropriate snacks on hand at work or in the car. Make wise food choices easy by preparing meals at home and taking a lunch each day rather than eating out and relying on willpower.
Diet Tip #8 – Eat on Purpose
Don’t be afraid to get in touch with hunger. Discover what true hunger really feels like. Treat this as research and document all findings. Observe what happens to the body as hunger approaches and how long it takes the physical feeling of hunger to subside even when no food is consumed. Also, pay attention to any emotional reactions that may arise. Strive to develop a sense of actual hunger so that eating becomes a purposeful activity designed to sustain the body only rather than fill other needs.
Diet Tip #9 – Treat Yourself Well
Dieting can be hard work. Pamper yourself during this time by getting enough sleep and enjoying non-food-related treats. If a slip occurs, it is not the end of the world and should not be the end of the diet. A slip is nothing more than a momentary failure. Simply forgive yourself and move on without recrimination.
Diet Tip #10 – Drink Water Before Meals
Drinking a glass of water 15 minutes before you eat makes it easier to feel full sooner, and makes it harder to eat as much.
Nice informative post here with some good points.
I think it’s important to understand food as a type of fuel for the body. WE don’t want to be over filling the tank because of excess but at the same time we have to keep fuel up otherwise we are not going anywhere.
Cheers,
Richard
There’s an interesting post over at the Health Journal Club that makes the case that people should just not eat anything that wasn’t a food 100 years ago. Gets rid of the aspartame, bleached GM flour, high fructose corn syrup garbage they try to pass off as food these days.
Good job! These are 10 practical and effective tips. May I add the 11th one?
11. Eat 5-6 small meals a day. Eating frequently keeps the metabolism high and fights hunger pangs.
Drinking water is one of the best tips! Not only does it help you feel full, but it helps detox your body as well! Drink lots of water and drink it often!
Great tips! I know this might sound a little funny but I’ve found that a “one minute workout” really helps. I work from home and during the day if I feel that I need a break I get on the eliptical machine for just one minute (at a high level). It gives me a short and needed break from sitting at my desk and refreshes my mind and body. This is completely outside my regular workout. Every little bit helps!
Hello, My name is Melissa, I am a fittnes instructor. I can give you my simpliest advice for free and it’s not complicated and for strat you dont need to excercise. Just folow this simple advice and it should become your lifestyle. You will feel better. First forget all expansive products that promise overnight losing weight. Non of it is healthy, and more importent is staying healthy.
1.Breakfast – Have it soon as you get up.(it shoud be not after 9, supposing you are working)
2.Lunch – 4-5 hours after breakfast (it should be healthy, both proteins and carbon hidrates-NOT FAST FOOD)
3.You should eat some fruits(because of vitamins and minerals your body needs) It is like a sneck between lunch and diner.
4.Diner- not after 18 o’clock.(it should be mostly proteins if not just proteines(fish is great, or find some other source of proteins)
5. Do not eat enything until morning.
Drink more water than usual.
Just be persistant! You will feal better soon.
This the simpliest for and proven to work.
If you want better results you can drink some herbal tea + that extra water. There are some good products on the market. My recommendation is Slimtea from Teateateas.I dont want to leave link or promote. It will help you to take out that extra water and all bad stuff with it. I recomend it becouse it is real quality, I use it even if I dont have weight problems. My students are using it with diet program and they are very satisfied.
If you want to do it faster but again healthy, you must read some books or articles about food and its elements.
Wish you good luck!!!
I think another one of the many ways that our may be able to achieve fasts weight loss or rapid weight loss is with the use of a cleanse. These cleanses are commonly referred to as colon cleanses or weight loss cleanses. Cleanses work by removing toxins and extra weight, actually waste, from our body. It has been said that most individuals have at least seven or eight pounds of waste stored in their bodies. A weight loss cleanse or a colon cleanse should help remove those toxins from our body.
Nice Tips!
Usually you read same thing over and over again, but this article shares some really good tips.
I like the portion control tip and especially the one about hunger. Many of us don’t even experience hunger feeling anymore and it feels almost painful when we eat less than usual.
As for colon cleansing, I know so many people that have done more damage to their body by following someone’s unprofessional advice on detox. I do not recommend colon cleansing without a professional advice and full body check up first. Furthermore, I think it is best if it is done by a professional rather than at home.
If you have liver or kidney stones, colon cleansing will make them moving and that can cause internal bleeding.
If you start to eat healthy unprocessed foods, and exercise your body will be able to get rid of all those toxins on its own. Following simple and healthy vegetarian diet will also speed this process up without damaging your health.
Keeping track on your weight loss goals is by far one of the most important points if you want to lose substantial weight.I think mental fitness is the key here.A lot of sport stars are doing special trainings to stay focused.Maybe this helps some dieters?I do not know right now but I will give it a try.Just see dieting from the sports point and maybe then you will have success if you do something where you want to win.Like a golf game or something.
In conclusion keeping track is difficult but not impossible.
All of these are great tips but the one that sticks with me most is the first one. It’s incredible that so many people avoid the fundamentals. In my opinion, it’s most likely because most people don’t want to admit that weight loss takes some real effort. If you’re cutting back as far as your caloric intake and doing cardio on a regular basis, then you’re definitely going to see results over time. These are the essentials and yet most people are always searching for a way “out”.
I have found that increasing your activity level, even slightly combined with drinking more water and less pop can really help with the weight loss goal. I have gotten too small for my 36 waist jeans and hope to get back into the 34 that I had previously. Keep moving for good health.
These are great tips for anyone on a weight loss journey and will ensure that they will see results. I think the idea of treats is a great one; you really do need to reward yourself at the end of every successful cycle of your weight loss journey and having a reward in mind will help you strive for success. I think another point to add, as well as drinking water before meals, you should try to keep water with you at all times and sip it regularly during the day, it really does help with weight loss like nothing else
if you want to lose substantial weight i think good eating habbit and regularly exercise is neccesary for you to follow ,other way you should choose proper foods, some foods containing high calories is bad for your weight loss
This is all good, sound and commonsense advice. Eating sensibly and a reasonable amount of exercise are key to losing weight. Cravings can be hard to kick though and I would recommend that anyone trying to lose weight also considers some kind of hynotherapy for eliminating their cravings and breaking the emotional ties that they may have with food, that can cause over-eating.
You know, all this talk about eating right, or making better food choices is fine… Yeah, okay… whatever. It’s just as easy as putting down the bag of chips and eating baby carrots, right?
Wrong.
That’s sort of like telling a person that smokes 2 packs a day to just chew gum instead. Face it… we, as a society, are ADDICTED to food. It makes us feel good. It makes us feel loved.
On top of that, we have been brainwashed into thinking that we need to eat 3+ times per day to be healthy. What a load of bull! Did I our ancestors eat 3+ times per day? They didn’t even eat every day.
I suppose you can blame the food industry if you want… for making food taste so darn good. But, when it comes to fixing the problem, YOU have to take full responsibility for the solution.
The first thing you HAVE to do is break your food addiction. Otherwise, you will NEVER make the right food choices.
These are some good tips. I lost 110lbs several years back and incorporated all of these and a few more. I actually just started a blog dedicated to weight loss.
I’ve found #10 to be true, that drinking lots of water all day helps me to feel fuller throughout the day. I try to eat 3 normal meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 2 snacks in between. I try my best not to eat after dinner so I can burn calories while I sleep.
I believe one of the key of an effective diet is to reduce your portions, especialy for older ladies. I never saw french women eat big food portions.
My worst enemy was snacking on the wrong things, but now I try to keep lots of fruit in the house and I particularly like my fruit FROZEN! Frozen grapes, mango and raspberries are great, makes a great substitute for ice cream!
Now days nearly everyone’s watching his weight regarding great obesity problem in the World. Of course many questions rise: How to lose weight? Where to get the information about it or/and the help of professionals? And more particular question : how to get rid of belly fat or how to make your belly flat. In the internet lots of sources about healthy lifestyle, fitness, diets etc. Every one’s looking for most convenient for him/herself. From my own experience I can say, it is not too hard to control your own weight on vital level, if you already have found right program. If to explain in simple way it is: – Don’t eat a lot of food per day
– Eat mostly vegetables and fruits and dairy products
– Drink plenty of plain water (at least 2,0 litres per day)
– Exclude from your ration bredish products, sugar and soft drink
– And, of course, you have to exercise
Diet Tip #8 – Eat on Purpose
I agree on that One. Just Eat When you Needed. We need to have a discipline in eating.
Thanks
I’ve just read a book by an Aussie woman, she was so obese she could not leave her home, she weighed over 300 lbs. So she lost her weight by walking around the clothesline in her backyard. Her story was awesome, and she has lots of really practical weight loss tips, ie keep a bowl of fresh fruit salad in your refrigerator all the time, when you need a snack, have a small bowl of fruit salad. And another I loved, although it is a little weird, whenever she had a sugar craving she dipped the tip of her baby finger in a sugar bowl and licked the tiniest amount of sugar. It instantly satisifed the craving without her heading for the cookie jar. She satreted with just five minutes exercise a day walking around her backard – after reading it I really felt inspired to do a little extra each day.
Eat A Grapefruit Lose The Weight. The Mayo Diet is misnamed because it was not named for Minnesota’s famed Mayo Clinic. Still, the eating plan persists under this name. It continues to be popular. It is also known as the Grapefruit diet because that fruit is consumed at most meals. So, if you are wondering how the Mayo Diet works, this article will explain it.
Good informative post. Tip # 1 is so simple, but probably one of the most overlooked aspects of nutrition. It’s not rocket science. I believe one can eat whatever they want within reason of course, provided they work accordingly. Understanding the theory behind tip #1 will accomplish your health and fitness goals.
I like you tip number 4 about portion control. Personally I think that portion control is the key to any long term eating plan. It does take some time to get used to if you eat a lot of big meals.
I love to put food in small containers, because this will keep me from overeating. This is a great way to get started with portion control.
Amazing tips. I think the last one is one of my favorites. If I drink a glass or two of water before my meals I feel completely full and eat less. However, it might not be so good if we think in the intake of the necessaries nutrients.
So if you drink water before the meal make sure that the small portion you eat is rich in healthy ingredients.
The most successful diets aren’t truly diets but rather lifestyle changes. Combine a nice switch with exercise and you have the recipe for success.
The food that we take in every meal must be monitored to be sure that we are not eating in excess. The composition of the food should also be checked since most processed meals today are toxin rich that can be very harmful to the body. I agree with your tips. Being slim means taking care of your body by eating healthy alternatives that the body can burn fast.
Great Tips! Have to eat better now due to illness. It hasn’t been easy, but the plus side is that I’m learning how to use the internet to help me and keep me motivated. I’ve even created my own website promoting the products that have helped me (not that that’s important).
But Anyway, thanks again for the tips. Be Safe and Good Health!
Indeed Nice tips! I am an overweight creature and have tried almost every tip to get rid from obesity. Nothing helped me. But some of your tips seem to be effective. I will try all tips that you have suggested. Tip #5 is more effective for me. Thanks for such tips.
I agree with Bell, its all about changing your lifestyle. But that’s the hardest part, after all old habits die hard.
Here are the 4 easy fat loss tips that are simple to follow. Stop spending money on weight loss equipments and fad diets. Read which diet is best for melting the fat.
1. Avoid salty foods
2. Increase water intake to increase metabolism
3. How effective is green tea against weight loss?
4. Elevate metabolism by consuming natural diets.
The tips mentioned above are really effective and worked a lot in weight reduction. One following carefully the prescribed diet in the way it is suggested will definitely find an improvement loosing their weight. However their is a green natural tea blend recently introduced in the market that does have remarkable effect in the weight reduction called Tava tea.
Great tips! I found numbers 1, 8 and 10 true.
Eating less without moving those muscles can’t help you lose weight fast. If you want to make your diet effective, you must have combine it with exercise.
Number 8, I am fond of eating even if I am not hungry. I always said that I will only eat when I feel some butterflies on my stomach, but I always end up eating most of the time. I know it’s not a good practice and I’m trying to do what you said, to Eat on Purpose. I like it when you said, “discover what true hungry feels like.”
I did number 10 when I was on my diet stage and that was really true. Drinking water before meals help you not to eat more because you would feel full already.
Great page for dieters, indeed! #1, Eat Less, Move More. A common tip to lose weight, a cliché I should say. But it is the most helpful and probably the very thing that could contribute in losing weight. And #8, Eat on Purpose. A lot of people, most likely the obese ones, eat and eat and eat without even thinking if they are REALLY hungry or not. Eating is a way and necessity of life but please, control and have a little discipline in eating for a better and healthy life.
Being over weight can cause a lot of bad effects in our health. we can develop cardiovascular disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, impaired immune system, respiratory problems and a lot more to mention.
If you know how your body is affected by your food intake, it is a lot easier to take control over your diet and lose weight as a result. Maybe that cup of ice cream is tempting today, but if you are aware that drinking a glass of water instead means that you will be at a lower risk of cancer and heart disease and a bunch of other serious medical conditions, then you will likely be a lot more motivated to change your eating habits.
Oh! I should really try this one.Being overweight is not healthy emotional and physically.
Hope all of these will work on me.
I definitely agree to tip number 10. Its one way to let you feel half full.
the best tip that worked for me is drinking water before a meal, and I must add, eating apples! eating apples makes me full for hours I eat less and it stops my cravings, very nice tips you have here 🙂
Great, sensible advice. I think that being aware of what our food contains, there is so much rubbish that the food manufacturers put in our food that keeps us hungry and coming back for more. The 100 year rule that Phillip mentioned would be good to use as a guideline, if not totally achievable. The more natural we keep our diets the better 🙂
This is great information about water, controlled quantity and less fat containing food – main mantra to weight loss.Thank you for what you are doing to educate and raise awareness about this important topic.
Good tips. I followed some tips in your list. I observed that some diet programs might work for us while others may not. So it is a challenge to look for the best weight loss program that suites our health condition. But there are a lot ways to lose weight and I advice everyone to choose the natural way because that program will help you learn to change your lifestyle completely. Just like your 10 diet tips. Its all natural.
I like your helpful tips. I think the portion sizes is definately something we need to take note of in our western culture. I also find drinking water is very important. When you are feeling hungry, all we need to do is drink water sometimes.
I really your #4 tips. I know for me eating the right portion is very difficult because I do not eat throughout the day. My dad has been eating 5-6 small portion meals for years and is better shape than all of his kids. It is amazing how healthy you can be from just eating properly and drinking water.
Great tips!
Some nice tips there. I’d like to point out tips 2 and 3, about the low fat alternatives. You need to be really careful these days with all them low fat foods. Not only are they filled with chemicals as you said. Sometimes the lower calorie foods are the same, but have less of the food in the box!
keep your goal in the back of your head, look out for little things you can do to help your results, and you will find fat loss is not as hard as you thought it was.
