In Late 2009 the Chicago Tribune highlighted a new Wendy’s ad campaign in New England based on texting coupons to customers

Customers of the nation’s No. 3 burger chain who sign up for the promotion and provide their phone number will receive a discount by showing their mobile device to a Wendy’s cashier.

However, you don’t really need coupons because you can get many money-saving nutritious meals at Wendy’s on a regular daily basis, especially from their Super Value Menu. Wendy’s believes in following their logo of “Quality Is Our Recipe”. Their hamburgers are made from fresh never frozen beef, are served hot off the grill, are never placed in a warming drawer, and some of the beef ends up in their famous chili. They only use center-cut chicken breast in their sandwiches, boneless wings, wraps, and on their chicken salads. The variety of ingredients on the salad bar are all fresh, hand-cut, not purchased bagged. and are served with a variety of all natural dressings that have no preservatives.

Founder Dave Thomas (1932-2002) began working in a restaurant at age 12 and was so enthralled that he stayed in that business for his entire life. He even quit school to work full time and didn’t receive his high school GED until 1993 when he was proclaimed at that graduation “Most Likely to Succeed”.

Dave opened his first Wendy’s (named for one of his daughters) Old Fashioned Hamburgers Restaurant in Columbus, Ohio in 1969. His goal was to serve the freshest ingredients in a friendly homey clean atmosphere and in the individual orders the customers wanted. He always credited his grandmother for teaching him about how to treat people well, to do the right things, and about service and quality.

Do you know why the Wendy’s hamburger is square? Because Dave always said, “At Wendy’s ,we don’t cut corners!!” Dave was also the inventor of the Pick-Up Window, the salad bar and stuffed baked potato bar, and the soft ice cream Frosty. With his father-like appearance and down-to-earth personality, he appeared in over 800 commercials over 13 years, which contributed much to the success of Wendy’s.

Wendy’s International, Inc. celebrated its 40th birthday on November 15, 2009, can boast of having over 6,600 restaurants in the USA and in 21 other territories and countries, and is one of the most popular fast food chains.
