Most people have tried a variety of diets, incorporating different healthy foods into their diets with little results. Eating the right foods and exercising can have a positive impact on your weight and help you to reach your weight loss goals.

People set themselves up for failure because it is hard to break the negative patterns we set in our lives. It is so easy to make excuses for ourselves when it comes to losing weight. Procrastination as well as the loss of motivation in our weight loss journey leads to failure.

I have listed a few food choices and weight loss programs which have lead to successful weight loss for so many.

Foods That Promote Healthy Weight Loss

Of course, you should always incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet. But, if you’re not drinking enough water, all your efforts will fail. Water acts as a cleansing agent and keeps us hydrated. You should aim to drink 8 glasses of water per day. Depending on your activity level, you may need more. If plain water doesn’t appeal to you, try adding a little lemon juice or sugar-free crystals to your water.

You need to have plenty of fiber in your diet. Eating a sufficient amount of fiber will ensure that you will not have digestive issues. Having too little fiber can cause constipation which is what you definitely do not want when trying to lose weight. Constipation can make you feel sick and bloated. Foods that contain high amounts of fiber are beans, lentils, fruits, vegetables and grains. You have a variety of fiber-filled foods to choose from to help with managing your weight. Fiber helps you to feel full longer.

Foods that contain protein are also essential for healthy weight loss. You will want to eat a minimal amount of red meat because it can be very fatty. Instead, stick with white meat such as chicken and fish. Fish is extremely good for you. It is lean and provides nutrients that are needed to maintain healthy weight.

Reduced Calorie Diet

You can lose weight successfully simply by counting calories. That doesn’t mean that you can eat really bad stuff in small amounts. It means that you can have balanced meals that leave you feeling full with some healthy snacks in between. The main idea behind calorie counting is portion control. You can have something sweet here and there, you just can’t scarf down an entire box of donuts. As you take in less calories, you will begin to lose more weight. You should keep a log of the food you eat each day and fill in how many calories each meal is. By doing this, you can succeed at losing weight by counting calories.

These are a few of the proven programs available at various costs.

Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers has been around for years. The system has helped many shed unwanted pounds. This program gives its members a chance to meet with one another which helps in developing a support system. Members can attend live meetings or the program can also be accessed online. The goal of the Weight Watchers diet is for members to lose 2 pounds per week. Weight loss is steady. The Weight Watchers diet will allow a certain number of points each day to each member based on their body composition. Participants are given a booklet that tells how many points any kind of food will cost them. It also includes meals that can be ordered at restaurants so members won’t be tempted to cheat while dining out. Weight Watchers is a safe and reliable diet. It certainly is not a fad diet and it is here to stay.

South Beach Diet

The South Beach Diet was developed for overweight heart patients. It provided excellent results for these patients. While this diet is similar to the Atkin’s Diet, there are some differences. It is often referred to as the healthy version of the Atkin’s Diet. During the first two weeks on this diet, most carbohydrates must be completely avoided. This would include rice, pasta and bread. Instead, you are required to eat three meals a day until you are satisfied. These meals include meats, shellfish, turkey, chicken and fish. Nuts, fat-free cheese, eggs, salad and vegetables are also on the menu for this diet. You can expect to lose 9 to 13 pounds during this phase of the diet. During the second phase of the South Beach Diet, carbohydrates are reintroduced, but only a little. This stage of the diet will allow you to lose 1 to 2 pounds per week. The third phase of this diet requires that you make a lifestyle change and eat healthy foods and maintain your weight. This diet is about balancing the good carbs and the bad carbs. This diet also has an online program with a database of recipes which also offers alternatives to vegetarians.

Nutrisystem Diet

The Nutrisystem Diet provides prepackaged foods to its participants which typically includes three meals and two snacks per day. These are shipped directly to the customer. Different options are provided for men, women and vegetarians. This diet provides a safe and healthy way to lose weight. You must be willing to stick with the meal plans. The idea behind this concept is that the meals are prepackaged, and therefore, contain the right amount of calories for your physical makeup. If you sneak other foods in on this diet, you will not get the results you had hoped for and you will be spending a lot of money for nothing. This diet plan can work but it will take hard work and determination. The meals can be pricey, but if you are someone who’s on the go, this may be the right diet plan for you.

The Safe Way to Lose Weight

If you want to lose weight, you want to do so safely and permanently. There are so many ads hyping the latest fad diets and their miraculous effects that it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. One ‘weight loss expert’ says a vegetarian diet is best, another promotes a high protein diet. Some recommend a balanced diet while others focus on eating just one food. Some promise miracles in the first three days, while others want you to commit to a months-long program. What is the safest way to lose weight, and to keep it off?

The Key to Effective Weight Loss

There isn’t a magic pill, or a secret formula to weight loss. It all boils down to burning more calories than you consume. The real confusion comes from trying to figure out how to do that, and do it safely. While a severely limited calorie diet can help you lose pounds, it can be counterproductive if you ruin your health while you are at it. Starvation diets don’t work because they don’t allow your body to receive all the nutrients that it needs to function. People who lose weight too quickly also run the risk of regaining it again – and more. The formula is simple – eat less and exercise. Burn more calories than you consume.

Stay Balanced

Virtually all real experts will let you know that the key to a healthy diet is balance. Diets that tell you to eat just one kind of food – or even just one particular food – don’t have any scientific basis and aren’t healthy for you. Our body needs all types of food for proper functioning – protein as building blocks, carbohydrates as fuel and even fats for certain body functions. The key is to eat a balanced diet. One that is about 50% carbohydrate, 20% protein and 30% fat is typically recommended.

It’s also important to eat quality foods. We’ve become dependent on fast foods and prepackaged meals, but these are exactly the wrong thing to eat to lose weight. High in fat, low in nutrition, full of additives and salt, these meals are the quickest way to weight gain the world has ever seen. Think about the current obesity epidemic – which is probably why you’re reading this in the first place – and consider it in light of ready-made meals. It used to be that when mom made our dinner the plate had lean meats, wholesome vegetables and fresh fruits. Even if mom never really cooked like that, that is still a good goal to shoot for. The less processed, the better.

Don’t Crash Diet

Trying to lose weight too quickly is never good for you. There are many faddish crash diets that claim you can lose several pounds a day. While you might lose quite a bit initially, eventually your body will go into starvation mode and begin to guard the weight you have. Apart from the safety risks, this type of dieting is also counterproductive in that your body also begins to consume your lean body mass. That’s the part of your body that actually burns calories. So when you start to eat again, there’s less lean mass burning the increase in calories and you actually end up fatter than before!

So what is a reasonable amount of weight loss? All true experts say that one to two pounds per week is sustainable and reasonable. In our instant gratification society, that just doesn’t seem like enough, but think about the math. At one or two pounds a week, it is possible to lose 50 to 100 pounds in a year! It probably took longer than that to put on, so it isn’t unreasonable to expect some time to pass before it comes back off. Slow and steady wins the race.

It’s best not to think of a diet as something you are on for a period of time, and then it’s back to business as usual. Rather, think of this eating plan as a lifestyle change, something healthy you’ll do for the rest of your life.

The Bottom Line on Losing Weight

Easy? Rapid? Quick? Not typically. The formula for safe, permanent weight loss is simple:

Burn more calories than you consume. Eat less and exercise.

Eat a balanced diet of natural foods. Stay away from fast or processed food as much as possible.

Don’t crash diet. Slow, steady weight loss is not only the safest way to lose weight, it’s also the most permanent.

Don’t think of a diet as something you’re on. Think of it as a whole new, healthy lifestyle.

Take a look around and it may seem that we are losing the Battle of the Bulge. But with a little common sense, and a whole lot of patience, it is possible to lose that extra weight – safely and permanently.

One of my readers is a member of the LA Weight Loss Center in McAllen Texas. She feels the place has gone down hill. She says she is having to pay for products when they come back although she had paid for them previously.

She was wondering if there was anyone else in the Rio Grande Valley having problems with this Center. She’d like to hear from you.

It’s great when we make a commitment to lose weight. When we shell out money to join a program to accomplish our weight loss goal, and we receive shoddy service, it is disheartening. Because we are overweight doesn’t mean we aren’t smart. We can tell when we are dealing with a trained professional or a wanna-be professional flying by the seat of their pants.

There is a list of various jobs, such as sales managers, and counselors available with the LA Weight Loss Franchise all over the country. I wonder what the qualifications are for these positions. You can check them out here.

Anyone from the Rio Grande Valley?….Anyone else having a recent problem with their weight loss center?….I’d love to hear from you.

This eight week weight loss program offers free nutrition classes. I attended my first class this past Tuesday. The room was packed. The program is called Lifesteps.

The first class was basicly an overview of what we will be covering for the next 8 weeks presented by a registered dietian. Our final weigh-in will be April 10th. We will be learning how to read food labels properly, portion control, and proper food choices. She also stressed the importance of exercise whether one is just starting to workout or an avid runner/walker.

We went over The Big Picture of Lifesteps Weight Management. She presented a balanced scale.

CALORIES IN……………………..CALORIES OUT
1. What you eat……………………….1. Metabolism
2. How much you eat……………….2. Physical Activity
3. How often you eat
4. How you eat
5. Why you eat

She explained all the elements of the Big Picture affect our weight. Lifesteps will help us identify areas of the Big Picture which most affect our weight. Lifesteps will also help us develop a plan to bring our own weight equation into balance.

These are the questions she had us all answer privately:
1. Are you here because you want to lose weight?
2. Are you ready to make a life-long commitment to healthy, moderate eating
habits and regular physical activity?
3. Are you willing to take the weight off slowly?
4. Are you trying to become a slimmer version of yourself?
5. Are you willing to evaluate your attitudes about food, exercise, and weight?
6. Do you have a network of family and friends who will support your efforts to
make lifestyle changes?
7. Will your current circumstances allow you to make behavior change a high
priority in your life?
8. Are you willing to keep a record of your food intake and physical activity?
9. Are you eady to target a goal weight that is realistic and healthy for you?

If you answered YES to all the questions, you are ready to make a commitment to losing weight. And the Lifesteps program may be just what you are looking for to succeed.

The official scale weight scale is in the room this class was given. I decided to way myself after class. I was down 3 pounds from my official starting weight. I left the room feeling pretty pumped up.

This time I’m going to KEEP the weight off once I get down to my ideal weight.

I couldn’t wait to sign up for this weight loss program sponsored by the hospital. It only cost $10.00. Being on a team will give me some incentive to lose weight. I drove home and brought my husband back to sign up too. We’re on the same team. We are called Mismatch Team 1. After completing our paperwork, we had our official weigh in. (have to remember what I was wearing so I can wear it for the final weigh-in) Ugh….their scales weigh me heavier than mine.

With is weight loss program, they are offering nutrition classes every Tuesday morning at the hospital. We also had the choice of attending 3 different weight loss facilities during this 8-week period. The choices available were Curves, Senior Center, or McNairy Athlectic Club. I signed my husband and me up for MAC. They have a men and women’s side and are open 24 hours a day.

I went by MAC and got the needed information from the owner and purchased our key cards to get in the building. He is going to offer a special rate for seniors when this 8-week period is over. He told me when I come in, he will show me the various machines and set up a program for me. (People down here are so so friendly)

Time for me to head off to the gym.

I received an email which was about a weight loss success story from a person in Canada. This person accredited their weight loss to a weight loss company called Nutrition in Motion. It is based in Toronto but also serves Ottawa and Montreal. This company has various diets you can chose from. You can pick the meals you want and they deliver breakfast, lunch and supper to your doorstep every morning. (How much fresher can you get than that? WOW)

This person has lost 17 pounds in 4 weeks and still going strong. Nutrition in Motion has just partnered with Strolf to offer a comprehensive diet and fitness plan. The “Nutrion and Training Program provides a person with a customized iet of freshly prepared gourmet meals in addition to tri-weekly PRIVATE training sessions with Strolf fitness personal.

Strolf Training (Stretching, Training, Rehabilitation for Optimum Life Fitness) System is a multi-disiplinary, stretching, strengthening and conditioning program that is custom tailored to each person’s needs and goals.

I like the idea of working one-on-one with a trainer. I think going to a regular gym when you are way out of shape as well as being way too heavy is hard. I remember when I was going a few years ago, I was lucky enough to have a gym that not many people attended. (It actually went out of business) I know I could never have attended a busy gym. I think that is what makes this program so attractive.

It’s work checking out for people who want to lose weight in Canada that live in or near Toronto, Ottawa, or Montreal.
