About P. F. Chang’s
P. F. Chang’s China Bistro is an American restaurant chain specializing in American Chinese cuisine. Businessman Paul Fleming and chef Philip Chiang founded the restaurant in Scottsdale, Arizona in 1993. In fact, it is from the names of these two founders that P. F. Chang’s gets its name. P. F. is Paul Fleming’s initials, and Chang is a take on Philip Chiang’s last name. The company, which currently operates only in the United States, consists of 133 restaurants in 34 states.
What makes P. F. Chang’s distinctive among Chinese food restaurants is its emphasis on preparing food only with the best available ingredients. This means that every dish is prepared to order using fresh, high-quality vegetables and sauces that were never canned or frozen. While some people think Chinese food is by definition sloppy and haphazardly prepared, P. F. Chang’s proves them wrong.
One of the most popular dishes at P. F. Chang’s is their Chang’s Chicken Lettuce Wraps, which can also be made vegetarian by subbing the chicken with tofu. The menu stretches across the Chinese food spectrum—including appetizers, soups, noodles, and rice dishes. P. F. Chang’s is also very sensitive to special dietary needs, as they offer separate vegetarian and gluten-free menus.
If you manage to make it there in time, P. F. Chang’s lunch bowl special is a great option. Everyday before 4 p.m., you have the option of your choice of entrée served on rice with a cup of soup (Egg Drop or Hot and Sour). For dinner, a great option is the P. F. Chang’s For Two deal. For less than forty dollars, two people can enjoy a four-course meal, consisting of your choice of soup, starter, entrée, and desert.
P. F. Chang’s is very unique among American restaurant chains in that many of its restaurants feature gorgeous architecture and beautiful décor. In fact, several of P. F. Chang’s locations have received architectural awards. P. F. Chang’s, with the help of MBH Architects, has received much architectural acclaim for restaurant locations in Seattle, Washington; Las Vegas, Nevada; Fort Worth and San Antonio, Texas; and Walnut Creek, Rancho Mirage, San Jose, Palo Alto and Long Beach, California. Most P. F. Chang’s restaurants are also “guarded” by two stone horses at the entrance, making it a distinctive architectural trait of the P. F. Chang’s franchise.
