What confuses me is distinguishing between the simple sugars in cane or beet sugar, candy, cake, etc. and the sugar in fruit. Fruit should be eaten alone prior to, say protein, because it digests so quickly. However, my husband and I eat a lot of fruit, i.e. 3 to 4 cups a day made up of blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, strawberries, mango, banana, and nectarines. We used to eat it with oatmeal each morning, but it was WAY TOO MUCH so we eat at one time and so we save the fruit for a mid-morning snack. Some snack! I'm concerned that we may be consuming too much sugar, although it is from fruit. Oh yes, in addition, we always have an 8-oz glass of pomegranate juice with our oatmeal and a tbsp. of maple syrup. And on days that we have brown or wild rice or whole wheat spaghetti, are we eating too many carbohydrates? That seems like a lot of sugar to me, what do you think?
